Project Highlight: Horigans House of Taps

Project Highlight: Horigans House of Taps

PROJECT NAME: Horigans House of Taps

OWNER: Mike and Mary Beth Horan

LOCATION: Greensboro, North Carolina

DESCRIPTION: This project was completed in collaboration with our wonderful partners at iPourit. Current setup includes 40 draft beers, 8 draft wines, and 1 cold tap water with plans to expand to 60 total taps in the near future.

The taproom offers self-pour, pay-by-the-ounce beer and wine. Tablets are interfaced with the Draft and POS systems, allowing the customer to pour their own perfect pints! The customer is charged by the ounce, so they can try a wide variety of draft products. Here is description of how it works found in this great Triad Business Journal article about the business:

“Customers go to a circular counter, provide proper identification and a credit card. They then receive a special bracelet containing a chip to record their purchases from their pouring from 48 taps.

A small video screen above each tap provides the price per ounce and various information about the corresponding drink — beer, wine, cider and root beer. Water is also provided at no cost. A horizontal, electronic chalkboard high on the wall above the taps also provides information on the selections. Beer runs from 22 cents per ounce for a Narragansett to 81 cents for a Belgian Strong Gold. With several varieties priced just above 30 cents, Mike Horan estimated an average price of 40 cents per ounce or $6.40 for a U.S. pint.”

This tap room is beautifully located in downtown Greenboro. Check them out on Facebook and stop in to be your own bartender the next time you are in the area!
